New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs


The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-4.  Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen didn’t pitch well.  Brandon Nimmo had two hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Paul Sewald pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two strikeouts and he lost his fourth game of the season, Tim Peterson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up four hits and a run. 

Tyler Chatwood pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Randy Rosario won his second game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout, Pedro Strop pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Brian Duensing gave up a hit to the only batter that he faced.  Steve Cishek pitched to one batter and struck him out and Brandon Morrow saved his 14th game of the season pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Nimmo had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Jose Bautista had a hit, Adrian Gonzalez had a hit and two RBI and Jose Reyes drew a walk.  Amed Rosario drew a walk, Bautista hit a double and Nimmo hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Nimmo was caught stealing. 

Ben Zobrist had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Kris Bryant had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit.  Albert Almora Jr. had three hits, Ian Happ had a hit and an RBI and Addison Russell had three hits.  Tommy La Stella had a hit, Wilson Contreras had a hit and Kyle Schwarber had a hit and four RBI.  Zobrist and Rizzo each hit a double and Schwarber hit a homerun.  The Cubs were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Bryant was caught stealing. 

In the third Nimmo hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the seventh Schwarber hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  Zobrist hit an RBI double, Bryant hit an RBI single and it was 3-2 Cubs.  In the eighth Schwarber hit a three-run homerun to push the lead to 6-2.  In the bottom of the eighth Gonzalez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-4 and in the ninth Happ hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday.
