The New York Mets defeated the
Washington Nationals on Sunday. The game
took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score
was 8-4. Tim Peterson started for the
Mets and pitched a couple of good innings.
Robinson Cano and Michael Conforto each had two hits and Jeff McNeil had
four RBI to lead the offense.
Peterson pitched two innings giving
up two hits and no runs with a walk and a strikeout. Simeon Woods Richardson pitched an inning
giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout, Zach Lee pitched
four innings giving up six hits and a run with two strikeouts and Casey Coleman
pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.
Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew
two walks, McNeil had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk and Cano had two
hits. Peter Alonso had a hit, Conforto
had two hits and an RBI and Wilson Ramos had a hit. Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, McNeil hit
a double, Alonso and Nimmo hit a triple and Lagares hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base.
In the first McNeil hit an RBI
ground out and Conforto hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. In the third Matt Adams hit a three-run
homerun to give the Nationals a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the third Alonso hit into a double play and a run
scored to tie the game at three. In the
fourth Drew Ward hit an RBI double to give the Nationals a 4-3 lead. In the fifth Lagares hit a solo homerun trying
the game at four. In the sixth Lagares
reached on a fielding error and the Mets took a 5-4 lead and McNeil hit a
three-run double to push the Mets lead to 8-4 and that would be the final
score.
The Mets record improved to 12-16 on the spring and
they will head to Sarasota to take on the Baltimore Orioles on Monday.
