The New York Yankees defeated by
the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. The game
took place at CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Florida and the final
score was 5-3. James Paxton started for
the Yankees and he pitched well. Clint
Frazier had three RBI and Diego Castillo had two hits to lead the offense.
Paxton pitched 5 2/3 innings giving
up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Luis Cessa pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up
two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, J.P. Feyereisen pitched a
perfect inning with a strikeout and Daniel Alvarez pitched an inning giving up
a hit and a walk with a strikeout.
Tyler Wade had a hit, Luke Voit had
a hit and drew a walk and Greg Bird had an RBI and drew a walk. Austin Romine drew a walk, Frazier had a hit,
three RBI and drew a walk and Matt Lipka had a hit. Brandon Wagner drew a walk, Castillo had two
hits and an RBI and Castillo and Frazier each hit a double. The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base.
Lipka had a stolen base and Frazier and Voit each were caught
stealing. Castillo committed an
error.
In the fourth Tyler Austin hit an
RBI double to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth Bird hit an RBI ground out and Frazier hit a three-run
double to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.
In the sixth Ronald Torreyes hit an RBI double to cut the Yankees lead
to 4-2. In the seventh Castillo hit an
RBI double to push the Yankees lead to 5-2.
In the bottom of the seventh Mitch Garver hit a sac fly to cut the lead
to 5-3 and that would be the final score.
The Yankees completed the Florida
portion of their spring schedule and will head to Washington D.C. to take on
the Nationals on Monday evening. They
will then be off on Tuesday and Wednesday before Opening Day on Thursday afternoon
in the Bronx.
