New York Mets defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates


The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.  Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen also pitched well and Jeff McNeil had three RBI to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with seven strikeouts.  He won his seventh game of the season.  Luis Avilan pitched 2/3 of an inning, Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Seth Lugo earned his first save of the season pitching an inning and striking out one. 

Dario Agrazal pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and five runs with a strikeout.  He lost his first game of the season.  Michael Feliz pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Keone Kela pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Chris Stratton pitched an inning with strikeouts. 

McNeil had a hit and three RBI, Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI and Wilson Ramos had a hit and an RBI.  Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI, Amed Rosario had a hit and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Rosario hit a triple  and McNeil, Frazier, Alonso and Ramos each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.  Rosario and Alonso each committed an error. 

Melky Cabrera had a hit, Adam Frazier had two hits and two RBI and Josh Bell had two hits.  Bryan Reynolds had a hit, Colin Moran had a hit and an RBI and Jung Ho Kang drew a walk.  Jose Osuna had a hit, Frazier hit a double and a homerun.  The Pirates were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the second Moran hit an RBI single to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the third McNeil hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.  In the fifth Frazier hit a solo homerun to push the Mets lead to 4-1.  In the sixth A. Frazier hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the bottom of the sixth Alonso hit a solo homerun making it 5-3 and Ramos hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 6-3 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday.
