New York Mets shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates


The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched great.  J.D. Davis had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense. 

Matz pitched a complete game shutout giving up five hits and he struck out seven with no walks.  Matz won his sixth game of the season. 

Trevor Williams pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Williams lost his fourth game of the season.  Kyle Crick pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Todd Frazier had a hit and Davis had two hits and two RBI.  Amed Rosario drew a walk and Davis hit a double.  Conforto and Davis each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Frazier committed an error and Ramos had a passed ball. 

Kevin Newman had two hits, Melky Cabrera had a hit and Bryan Reynolds had a hit.  Jacob Stallings had a hit, Cabrera and Stallings each hit a double and the Pirates were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the sixth Conforto hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Davis hit a two-run homerun to push the Mets lead to 3-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will go for the three-game sweep on Sunday.
