New York Yankees lose third straight to the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 9-5.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch great.  Gio Urshela led the offense with four hits. 

Sabathia pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs with three strikeouts.  Sabathia lost his sixth game of the season.  Chad Green pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two strikeouts, Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  He won his 13th game of the season.   Matt Barnes pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out four, Nathan Eovaldi pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts and Brandon Workman pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk, Edwin Encarnacion had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Luke Voit had two hits.  Gleber Torres had a hit and drew a walk, Urshela had four hits and two RBI and Kyle Higashioka had a hit and two RBI.  Voit and Urshela each hit a double and Encarnacion hit two doubles.  Urshela hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cortes Jr. committed an error and Tauchman had an outfield assist. 

Mookie Betts had an RBI, Rafael Devers had three hits and Xander Bogaerts had a hit and an RBI.  J.D. Martinez had a hit and two RBI, Christian Vasquez had a hit and Andrew Benintendi had three hits and an RBI.  Sam Travis had three hits and an RBI, Michael Chavis had two hits and an RBI, Brock Holt had an RBI and drew a walk and Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit and an RBI.  Devers hit two doubles and Bogaerts hit a double.  Benintendi hit two doubles.  Bradley Jr. hit a triple and he hit a homerun.  Martinez also hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 5-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Travis had a stolen base. 

In the second Urshela hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Benintendi hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Urshela hit an RBI single to give the Yankees back the lead at 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Martinez hit a two-run homerun and the Red Sox grabbed a 3-2 lead.  Chavis hit an RBI single and it was 4-2 Red Sox.  In the fifth Encarnacion hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the bottom of the fifth Bogaerts hit an RBI double to push the lead to 5-3.  In the sixth Holt hit a sac fly to make it 6-3 and Bradley Jr. hit an RBI triple extending the lead to 7-3.  Betts hit a sac fly and it was 8-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Travis hit an RBI single making it 9-3.  In the eighth Higashioka hit a two-run single and the lead was cut to 9-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have lost the first three games of the series and will try to salvage the final game on Sunday night.
