The New York Yankees defeated the
Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score
was 4-2. Masahiro Tanaka started for the
Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen was good. Aaron Judge, Luke Voit and Gio Urshela each
had two hits to lead the offense.
Tanaka pitched six innings giving
up four hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts. Tanaka won his sixth game of the season. Adam Ottavino pitched 1/3 of an inning giving
up a hit, Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck
out two and Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out
two. Aroldis Chapman saved his 25th
game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Marcus Stroman pitched six innings
giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts. Stroman lost his 10th game of the
season. Derek Law pitched 2/3 of an
inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts and Justin Shafer
pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout.
DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Judge had
two hits and drew a walk and Voit had two hits.
Gleyber Torres had a hit, Brett Gardner had a hit and Urshela had two
hits and two RBI. Austin Romine had a
hit, Mike Tauchman had a hit and an RBI and Torres hit a double. Tauchman hit a homerun and the Yankees were
1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Torres was caught stealing and Torres
committed two errors. LeMahieu also
committed an error.
Eric Sogard had a hit, an RBI and
drew a walk, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a hit. Randall Grichuk had a hit and an RBI, Danny
Jansen had two hits and Grichuk and Sogard each hit a homerun. The Blue Jays were 0-5 with runners in
scoring position and left seven men on base.
In the second Urshela hit a two-run
single to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth Grichuk hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1. Sogard hit a solo homerun and the game was
tied at two. In the bottom of the fifth
a wild pitch gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead.
In the seventh Tauchman hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to
4-2 and that would be the final score.
The Yankees took two out of three
in the series and will remain home to take on the Tampa Bay Rays in the start
of a four-game series on Monday night.
