Yankees lose a close well pitched game to the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched well.   Aaron Judge led the offense with four hits. 

Happ pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Happ took his fifth loss of the season.  Adam Ottavino pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out three and Zack Britton pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a hit.  David Hale pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Clayton Richard pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one.  Nick Kingham pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk.  He struck out three.  Joe Biagini pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and won his third game of the season, Tim Mayza pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and David Phelps pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out three.  Daniel Hudson saved his second game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Judge had four hits and an RBI and Luke Voit drew two walks.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Brett Gardner had two hits.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base and Gregorius was picked off. 

Eric Sogard had a hit, Freddy Galvis drew a walk and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a hit.  Cavin Biggio had a hit and drew a walk, Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and Randal Grichuk had two hits and two RBI.  Rowdy Tellez had a hit, Brandon Drury had a hit and Sogard hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gurriel Jr., Biggio each had a stolen base.  Richard had a pickoff. 

In the sixth Grichuk hit a two-run single to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.  In the ninth Judge hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1 but that was the final score. 
The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday after
