New York Mets are swept by the Chicago Cubs


The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Jacob deGrom pitched well and Wilson Ramos had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up five hits and four runs with seven strikeouts.  deGrom lost his eight game of the season, Seth Lugo pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Jon Lester pitched six innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Lester won his 11th game of the season.  Tyler Chatwood pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Brandon Kintzler pitched a perfect inning and Craig Kimbrel saved his 13th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a  strikeout. 

Amed Rosario drew a walk, J.D. Davis had a hit and an RBI and Pete Alonso drew a walk.  Ramos had two hits, Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk and deGrom had a hit.  Ramos hit a double, Davis hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Conforto was caught stealing. 

Kris Bryant had a hit and drew a walk, Javier Baez had a hit and Victor Caratini had three hits and four RBI.  Addison Russell had a hit, Caratini hit two homeruns and the Cubs were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Russell had a stolen base and Bryant committed an error. 

In the first Davis hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Caratini hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Caratini hit a three-run homerun to give the Cubs a 4-1 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Mets were swept in the three-game series and lost their sixth game in a row.  They will now head to Philadelphia for a three-game series to begin on Friday night.
