The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night. The game took place
at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-0. Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the
Yankees and he pitched well, bullpen was great and DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres each had two hits to
lead the offense.
Cortes pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs or walks with five strikeouts. Clay Holmes
won his first game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, Miguel Castro pitched a
perfect inning and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched an inning giving up two hits with a strikeout. Aroldis
Chapman pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Yusei Kikuchi pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with two earned. He walked two
and struck out two. Kikuchi lost his first game of the season, David Phelps pitched 2/3 of an inning and
Julian Merryweather pitched a perfect inning. Tim Mayza pitched a perfect inning and Anthony Kay
pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.
Josh Donaldson drew two walks, Aaron Judge had a hit and Anthony Rizzo had a hit. Giancarlo Stanton
had an RBI, LeMahieu had two hits and Torres had two hits. Aaron Hicks had a hit, two RBI and drew a
walk, Rizzo, LeMahieu, Torres and Judge each hit a double. Hicks hit a homerun and the Yankees were
1-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Donaldson committed an error.
George Springer had two hits, Bo Bichette had a hit and Teoscar Hernandez had a hit. Matt Chapman had
a hit, Springer hit a double and Chapman hit a double. The Blue Jays were 0-6 with runners in scoring
position and left six men on base. Springer had a stolen base, Heineman committed an error and
Hernandez had an outfield assist.
In the second Hicks hit a two-run homer giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth
an error pushed the lead to 3-0. In the eighth a Stanton sac fly made it 4-0 and that was the final
score. The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.
