New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers in extra innings to sweep the series

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Sunday morning.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen had a little bit of trouble.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had two hits to lead the offense. 

Montgomery pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with one walk and five strikeouts.  Clarke Schmidt pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Miguel Castro pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Wandy Peralta pitched a perfect inning.  Michael King won his third game of the season pitching a perfect inning, striking out the side. 

Rony Garcia started for the Tigers and he pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Alex Lange pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout, Michael Fulmer pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Gregory Soto pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and he took his third loss of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had an RBI and drew two walks, Aaron Judge had a hit and Anthony Rizzo had a hit.  Josh Donaldson had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI and Kiner-Falefa had two hits.  Matt Carpenter drew a walk, Joey Gallo had a hit and two RBI and Donaldson hit a double.  Gallo hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Kiner-Falefa and Rizzo had a stolen base and Gallo had an outfield assist. 

Willi Castro had a hit, Miguel Cabrera had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Javier Baez had two hits and two RBI.  Daz Cameron had two hits and an RBI, Eric Haase drew a walk and Cameron, Baez and Castro each hit a double.  The Tigers were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Schoop and Castro each committed an error and Castro had an outfield assist. 

In the fourth Baez hit an RBI double to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  Cameron hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Gallo hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the seventh LeMahieu drew an RBI walk to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth Cabrera hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  Baez hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Torres reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored to tie the game at four.  In the bottom of the tenth Donaldson hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 5-4 walk-off win. 

The Yankees swept the three-game series and the six game homestand.  They will have a day off on Monday and head to Minnesota to take on the Twins on Tuesday night.
