The New York Yankees defeated the
Detroit Tigers on Friday night. The game
took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was
13-0. Gerrit Cole started for the
Yankees and he pitched great and the offense was led by Aaron Judge who had
four hits. There were four other players
who had two hits.
Cole pitched seven innings giving
up two hits and no runs. He walked none and
struck out nine and earned his fifth win of the season. Manny Banuelos pitched two innings giving up
a hit and he struck out one.
Elvin Rodriguez started for the
Tigers and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 11 hits and ten runs with two
walks and four strikeouts. He lost his
first game of the season. Jacob Barnes
pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a
strikeout, Will Vest pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and
Harold Castro pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk.
DJ LeMahieu had two hits, two RBI
and drew a walk, Judge had four hits and two RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit
and three RBI. Josh Donaldson drew two
walks, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Matt Carpenter had two hits, two RBI and
drew a walk. Isiah Kiner-Falefa had two
hits, Jose Trevino had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had
a hit and an RBI. Kiner-Falefa hit two
doubles and LeMahieu hit a double.
Trevino hit a triple and Trevino, Judge, Rizzo and Carpenter each hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 5-7 with
runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
Jonathan Schoop had a hit, Miguel
Cabrera had a hit and Tucker Barnhart had a hit. The Tigers were 0-1 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base.
Castro and Clemens each had an outfield assist.
In the bottom of the third Trevino
hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Judge hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to
2-0. In the bottom of the fourth Trevino
hit a two-run triple extending the lead to 4-0.
Hicks hit an RBI single and it was 5-0 Yankees. In the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit a
three-run homerun pushing the lead to 8-0.
Carpenter hit a two-run homerun and it was 10-0 Yankees. LeMahieu hit a two-run single making it 12-0
and in the bottom of the eighth Judge hit an RBI single extending the lead to
13-0 and that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Saturday.
