The New York Yankees defeated the
Detroit Tigers on Saturday. The game
took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was
3-0. Luis Severino started for the
Yankees and he pitched brilliantly. The
offense only managed four hits but that would be good enough.
Severino pitched seven innings
giving up one hit and no runs with a walk and ten strikeouts. Severino earned his fourth win of the
season. Michael King pitched an inning
with a strikeout and Clay Holmes pitched an inning with a strikeout and picked
up his eighth save of the season.
Beau Brieske started for the Tigers
and he pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and
seven strikeouts. He took his fifth loss
of the season. Jason Foley pitched a
perfect inning with a strikeout, Joe Jimenez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up
a hit and a run with two walks. Andrew
Chafin pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.
Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and
drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and an
RBI. Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Gleyber
Torres drew a walk and Kyle Higashioka drew a walk. Aaron Hicks had a hit, Stanton hit a double
and Judge and Rizzo each hit a homerun.
The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men
on base.
Miguel Cabrera had a hit, Derek Hill
drew a walk and the Tigers left one man on base.
In the bottom of the first Judge
hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth Rizzo hit a solo
homerun extending the lead to 2-0 and in the bottom of the eighth Donaldson hit
a sac fly to make it 3-0 which would be the final score.
The two teams will play the third
and final game of the series on Sunday morning.
