The New York Yankees defeated the Texas
Rangers on Sunday afternoon. The game
took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3. Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he
battled through 4 2/3 innings. The
bullpen was great and Harrison Bader led the offense with two hits and two
RBI.
Cole pitched 4 2/3 innings giving
up nine hits and three runs with a walk and seven strikeouts. Jimmy Cordero pitched an inning giving up a
hit and a walk, Nick Ramirez pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one and Ron
Marinaccio picked up his fourth win of the season pitching an inning and giving
up a hit. Michael King pitched an inning
giving up a hit and struck out two and earned his fifth save of the
season.
Nathan Eovaldi started for the
Rangers and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with two
walks and five strikeouts. Josh Sborz
pitched 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts, John King pitched 1/3 of an inning
giving up two hits and two runs and took his first loss of the season and Yerry
Rodriguez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk.
Gleyber Torres had a hit, Bader had
two hits and two RBI and Anthony Rizzo drew a walk. Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, an RBI and drew
a walk, Jake Bauers had a hit and drew a walk and DJ LeMahieu had a hit and two
RBI. Anthony Volpe had a hit, Jose
Trevino had a hit and Torres, Bauers, Volpe and LeMahieu each hit a
double. Bader hit two doubles. The Yankees were 4-12 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base.
Trevino had a pickoff.
Marcus Semien had two hits, Corey
Seager had a hit and an RBI and Nathaniel Lowe had two hits. Josh Jung had a hit and drew a walk, Jonah
Heim had two hits and an RBI and Ezequiel Duran had two hits. Leody Taveras had two hits, an RBI and drew a
walk. Semien, Taveras and Lowe each hit
a double and Duran hit two doubles. Heim
hit a homerun and the Rangers were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and
left ten men on base. Taveras had a
stolen base and was picked off.
In the top of the first Seager had
an RBI single to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
In the second Heim hit a solo homerun pushing the Rangers lead to
2-0. Taveras hit an RBI double and it
was 3-0 Rangers. In the bottom of the
second LeMahieu hit a two-run double cutting the lead to 3-2. In the eighth Bader hit a two-run double
giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead and Stanton hit an RBI single making it 5-3 and
that would be the final score. The
Yankees took two out of three in the series and four out of six on the
homestand. They will be off on Monday
and then head to Oakland to begin a three-game series on Tuesday night.
