New York Yankees defeat Tigers on a walk-off

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Marcus Stroman started for the Yankees, and he pitched well but had some control issues.  The bullpen pitched well, and the Yankees offense didn’t do much until the ninth inning when they won the game. 

Stroman pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with five walks and three strikeouts.  Ian Hamilton pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out one, Victor Gonzalez pitched 1 1/3 innings with a walk and Dennis Santana picked up his second win of the season pitching an inning with a walk. 

Reese Olson started for the Tigers, and he pitched five innings giving up two hits and no runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Alex Faedo pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out four, Andrew Chafin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Shelby Miller pitched an inning with a walk.  Jason Foley pitched, giving up four hits and two runs and took his first loss of the season. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit and drew a walk; Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Verdugo had a hit and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Anthony Rizzo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit.  Austin Wells drew a walk, Stanton hit a double and the Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Judge had a stolen base, and Wells committed an error. 

Riley Greene had three hits and drew a walk; Mark Canha had a hit and Wenceel Perez drew two walks.  Kerry Carpenter drew two walks; Colt Keith had an RBI and drew a walk and Zach McKinstry drew a walk.  Jake Rogers had a hit and the Tigers were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  McKinstry had a stolen base. 

In the sixth Keith drew an RBI walk giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the ninth Stanton hit an RBI double tying the game at one and Rizzo hit an RBI walk-off single giving the Yankees a 2-1 victory.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
