The New York Mets win behind Noah Syndergaards first major league win

The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Noah Syndergaard got the start for the Mets and pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Sean Gilmartin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out one, Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up a walk and Robles pitched an inning striking out one.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning. 

Wily Peralta pitched five innings giving up nine hits and five runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Will Smith pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two, Jonathan Broxton pitched a perfect inning and Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect inning. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Eric Campbell had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Michael Cuddyer had a hit and two RBI, Daniel Murphy drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Johnny Monell drew a walk, Juan Lagares had two hits and Duda hit two doubles and Campbell hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Lagares had a stolen base. 

Ryan Braun had a hit and an RBI, Adam Lind had a hit and Juan Centeno had a hit and drew a walk.  Jason Rogers drew a walk, Luis Sardinas had a hit, Centeno hit a double and the Brewers were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ramirez committed an error. 

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Duda hit an RBI double in the third to make it a 2-0 game.  In the fourth Campbell hit an RBI single and Cuddyer hit a two run single to make it 5-0 Mets.  In the sixth Braun hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will remain at home and take on the St. Louis Cardinals beginning on Monday night. 

The New York Mets are shutout in Milwaukee

The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. Chris Young pitched well and their bullpen as well. The Mets offense produced two hits. Ryan Braun led the Brewers offense and Peralta started and pitched well for the Brewers. 
Young pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs, striking out two. Young lost his eighth game of the season. Josh Edgin didn’t record an out and gave up a walk and Manny Acosta pitched 1/3 of an inning retiring the only batter that he faced and Frank Francisco pitched an inning striking out one. Wily Peralta won his second game of the season pitching eight innings giving up two hits and a walk with five strikeouts. John Axford saved his 29^th game of the season pitching an inning giving up a walk and striking out one.

Daniel Murphy drew a walk, Josh Thole had a hit and drew a walk and Andres Torres had a hit. The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Young had a pickoff.

Aoki had two hits and drew a walk, Rickie Weeks had a hit and Braun had two hits and two RBI. Aramis Ramirez had a hit and an RBI, Jean Segura had a hit and Peralta had a hit. Aoki had two doubles and Peralta hit a double. Braun hit two homeruns and Ramirez also hit a homerun. The Brewers were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Aoki had two stolen bases and Segura was picked off. Braun and Ramirez hit back-to-back homeruns in the fourth inning to make it 2-0 Brewers. In the sixth inning Braun hit a solo homerun to make it 3-0 and that was the final score.

The Brewers took two out of three in the series. The Mets record fell to 66-80 on the season and the Brewers record improved to 74-72. The Mets will begin a three game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.

New York Mets continue to play well on the road as they win in Milwaukee

The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 7-3 on Friday night. The game took place at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well and their bullpen pitched pretty well. The Mets offense was led by Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda. Fiers started for the Brewers and pitched ok and the bullpen was pretty good. The Brewers offense was led by Aramis Ramirez. 
Niese pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and five strikeouts. Niese picked up his 11^th win of the season. Josh Edgin faced two batters and retired them both, Jon Rauch faced one batter and retired him and Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up two hits. Ramon Ramirez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. Mike Fiers lost his eighth game of the season pitching five innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Manny Parra pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with one of them being earned. Livan Hernandez pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with a strikeout, Josh Stinson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Tyler Thornburg pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.

Murphy had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, David Wright had two hits and Ike Davis had an RBI. Duda had two hits and two RBI, Jordany Valdespin had a hit and drew a walk and Josh Thole had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Niese had two hits, Fred Lewis had a hit. Wright hit two doubles and Duda and Thole each hit a double. Murphy and Duda each hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Valdespin was caught stealing and Tejada committed an error.

Norichika Aoki had a hit, Rickie Weeks drew a walk and Ryan Braun had a hit and drew a walk. Ramirez had two hits, Jonathan LuCroy had a hit and Carlos Gomez had a hit and drew a walk. Travis Ishikawa had a hit and an RBI, Jean Segura drew a walk and Fiers had a hit and an RBI. Nyjer Morgan had a hit and an RBI. Ishikawa and Ramirez each hit a double. Morgan hit a triple and the Brewers were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Segura and Weeks each committed an error.

In the first the Mets took a 2-0 lead. Davis had an RBI groundout and Duda hit an RBI double. Murphy hit a two run homerun in the second to make it 4-0 Mets. In the bottom of the second Ishikawa hit an RBI double and Fiers hit an RBI single making it a 4-2 game. In the sixth Duda hit a solo homerun, Thole hit an RBI double and Tejada grounded out to score another run. It was 7-2 Mets. The Brewers scored the final run of the game in the ninth on a Morgan RBI triple.

The Mets record improved to 66-78 and the Brewers record fell to 72-72. The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.

The Mets lose big to the Brewers

The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 8-0 on Tuesday night. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and was not good. Zach Greinke started for the Brewers and was great. David Wright led the Mets offense but was pulled early due to the fear of retaliation. Ryan Braun of the Brewers got hit and Mets manager Terry Collins was afraid that Wright would get hit and pulled him from the game. It was controversial as Wright was not happy at all. Ishikawa led the Brewers offense. 
Gee pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with a walk and four strikeouts. It was his third loss of the season. Manny Acosta pitched to two batters and retired them both, D.J. Carrasco pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and Ramon Ramirez pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk. He struck out five batters. Greinke pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs with no walks and seven strikeouts. Greinke picked up his fourth win of the season. Tim Dillard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and John Axford pitched an inning giving up a hit and had two strikeouts.

Wright had two hits, Lucas Duda had a hit and Daniel Murphy had a hit. Mike Baxter had two hits, Wright and Baxter each had a double. The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and they left three men on base. Wright was caught stealing.

Norichika Aoki had two hits for the Brewers. Rickie Weeks had a hit and an RBI, Braun had a hit and Aramis Ramirez had a hit and drew a walk. Brooks Conrad drew a walk, Jonathan Lucroy had two hits and an RBI and Travis Ishikawa had three hits and five RBI. Cesar Izturis had a hit and an RBI, Lucroy had a double and Weeks had a homerun. Ishikawa hit two homeruns. The Brewers were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base.

Ishikawa grounded out to score a run and Izturis hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Brewers. In the fifth Ishikawa hit a solo homerun making it 3-0 Brewers. Lucroy hit an RBI single and Ishikawa hit a three run homerun in the sixth inning. The score was 7-0 Brewers and then Weeks hit a solo homerun in the seventh making it 8-0. That was the final score of the game.

The two teams split the brief two game series. The Mets record dropped to 20-16 and the Brewers improved their record to 16-20. The Mets will remain at home and take on the Cincinatti Reds in a brief two game series. They will then hit the road to Toronto and Pittsburgh.

Winter Meetings end with a bang and Braun tests positive for PEDS?

The Final day of the winter meetings was Thursday and it ended with a bang.  Albert Pujols formerly of the St. Louis Cardinals decided on going to the Anaheim Angels.  The Angels in recent years have always been involved with free agents but never went the extra mile and always seem to fall short.  This time they gave the best player in baseball a ten year deal worth 254 million dollars.  This deal is crazy, he is the best player but he will be 41 years old at the end of the deal, if you believe he is really 31 now.  There are some who believe he is older then he has said.  I would say they will be good with him for the first five years and then he will start to decline and the contract will become a big problem.  The good thing for Pujols is that he could become a DH, we have seen what has happened to Arod after he signed his ten year deal with the Yankees. 

The Angels didn't stop with Pujols though, they signed C.J. Wilson to a five year 77.5 million dollar deal.  Anaheim got a lot more interesting with the additions of these two players.  The Angels who have been a very good team for the last decade or so have missed the playoffs the last two years but instantly they are a contender once again. 

Ryan Braun tested positive for PEDS it was being reported tonight by ESPN.  The test was done in October and Braun and his camp have stated that they are appealing it because he didn't knowingly take anything and he is innocent.  I would say don't hold your breath on that one, you just can't believe these ballplayers with the history of them but you never know.  It is being reported now later tonight that Braun requested a second test and it came back negative and they are using that in their appeal process, or trying to use it.  We will stay tuned with this story as it continues to develop.  He will be a marked man no matter what now though and suffer because of it and after such a great year and October for baseball and offseason so far this is another black mark on the sport. 

Milwaukee rallies to take Game One of the NLCS

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 9-6 in Game One of the National League Championship Series. Zach Greinke and Jaime Garcia did not have their best stuff. The offenses both played well and the Brewers won with one big inning. The Brewers scored six runs in the fifth inning.
Greinke pitched six innings for the Brewers giving up eight hits and six runs. He walked two and struck out six. Garcia pitched four innings for the Cardinals giving up six hits and six runs with three walks and three strikeouts. Octavio Dotel for the Cardinals didn’t fare so well in relief of Garcia. Dotel gave up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned in one inning. The Brewers pen only gave up one hit and one walk in three innings of relief. Takashi Saito, Francisco Rodriguez and John Axford were the relievers for the Brewers and they put the Cardinals away without much of a fight. They struck out four batters. The bullpens were the difference in the game. The Cardinals pen gave up three runs and two earned in four innings. They walked two and struck out one.

Rafael Furcal had two hits for the Cardinals, John Jay had a hit and a walk and Albert Pujols had a hit. Lance Berkman had two hits and an RBI, Matt Holliday had two hits and an RBI and Yadier Molina had a walk. David Freese had a hit, walk and three RBI, Furcal had a double and Freese had a homerun. The Cardinals were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Dotel made a throwing error.

Cory Hart had a hit and a walk for the Brewers. Jerry Hairston had two hits and a walk, Ryan Braun had two hits and four RBI and Prince Fielder had a hit, walk and two RBI. Rickie Weeks had a hit and a walk, Yuniesky Betancourt had two hits and two RBI and Jonathan Lucroy had two hits and an RBI. Weeks, Hairston, Braun, Lucroy and Betancourt each had a double. Braun, Fielder and Betancourt all had a homerun. The Brewers were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base.

The Cardinals took the lead in the first inning on a Holliday RBI single. In the bottom of the first Braun hit a two run homerun to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead. In the fourth Freese hit a three run homerun to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead. Berkman hit an RBI single in the fifth to extend the Cardinals lead to 5-2. In the bottom of the fifth the Brewers had a big inning where they would take the lead and not relinquish it. Braun hit a two run double, Fielder hit a two run homerun and Betancourt hit a two run homerun to give the Brewers a 8-5 lead. In the seventh Pujols grounded into a double play but a run scored making it 8-6. Lucroy hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to make it 9-6 and that would conclude the scoring in the game.

The Brewers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the best of seven National League Championship Series. Game Two will take place on Monday night in Milwaukee. This NLCS was the first time since 1982 the Brewers are in a LCS. They of course back then were in the American League. The Brewers had the leagues best home record and they look to go up 2-0 before heading to St. Louis for the middle three games of the series.
