The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 8-0 on Tuesday night. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and was not good. Zach Greinke started for the Brewers and was great. David Wright led the Mets offense but was pulled early due to the fear of retaliation. Ryan Braun of the Brewers got hit and Mets manager Terry Collins was afraid that Wright would get hit and pulled him from the game. It was controversial as Wright was not happy at all. Ishikawa led the Brewers offense.
Gee pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with a walk and four strikeouts. It was his third loss of the season. Manny Acosta pitched to two batters and retired them both, D.J. Carrasco pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and Ramon Ramirez pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk. He struck out five batters. Greinke pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs with no walks and seven strikeouts. Greinke picked up his fourth win of the season. Tim Dillard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and John Axford pitched an inning giving up a hit and had two strikeouts.
Wright had two hits, Lucas Duda had a hit and Daniel Murphy had a hit. Mike Baxter had two hits, Wright and Baxter each had a double. The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and they left three men on base. Wright was caught stealing.
Norichika Aoki had two hits for the Brewers. Rickie Weeks had a hit and an RBI, Braun had a hit and Aramis Ramirez had a hit and drew a walk. Brooks Conrad drew a walk, Jonathan Lucroy had two hits and an RBI and Travis Ishikawa had three hits and five RBI. Cesar Izturis had a hit and an RBI, Lucroy had a double and Weeks had a homerun. Ishikawa hit two homeruns. The Brewers were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base.
Ishikawa grounded out to score a run and Izturis hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Brewers. In the fifth Ishikawa hit a solo homerun making it 3-0 Brewers. Lucroy hit an RBI single and Ishikawa hit a three run homerun in the sixth inning. The score was 7-0 Brewers and then Weeks hit a solo homerun in the seventh making it 8-0. That was the final score of the game.
The two teams split the brief two game series. The Mets record dropped to 20-16 and the Brewers improved their record to 16-20. The Mets will remain at home and take on the Cincinatti Reds in a brief two game series. They will then hit the road to Toronto and Pittsburgh.
