The New York Yankes hold off the Boston Red Sox as they even their series



The New  York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 3-1 Yankees.  Michael Pineda started and pitched great, the bullpen did their job and the offense got a couple of big hits.  Stephen Drew hit a two run double and Brett Gardner hit a solo homerun. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up one run on four hits.  He walked none and struck out seven and won his tenth game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out two and Andrew Miller saved his 29th game of the season.  He pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Rick Porcello pitched great going eight innings and giving up five hits and three runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out 13.  Porcello lost his 12th game of the season, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Noe Ramirez pitched to two batters and struck them both out. 

Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Carlos Beltran had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Drew had a hit and two RBI.  Drew hit a double and Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Mookie Betts had a hit, Pablo Sandoval had a hit and an RBI and Xander Bogaerts ahd two hits.  Brock Holt had a hit, Blake Swihart had a hit and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits.  Bradley Jr. hit two doubles and the Red Sox were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left sevenmen on base.  Betts was caught stealing and Shaw committed an error. 

In the third Sandoval hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Drew hit a two run double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the eighth Gardner hit a solo homerun to make it 3-1 Yankees and that was the final score.  The rubber game of the series will be on Wednesday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees fall just short in Boston



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 4-3 Red Sox.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and pitched pretty well.  The Yankees offense had plenty of chances and they just couldn't get the big hit.  Didi Gregorius had four hits and just missed a grand slam in the ninth inning. 

Nova pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Nova lost his seventh game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two walks and he struck out a batter. 

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched five innings giving up seven hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out four and won his eighth game of the season.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning giving up a walk and struck out one, Alexi Ogando pitched an inning giving up a walk and Junichi Tazawa pitched an inning giving up two hits.  Jean Machi saved his fourth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run with three walks and two strikeouts. 

Chris Young drew a walk, Stephen Drew had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Brian McCann drew three walks and Chase Headley had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Greg Bird had a hit, Gregorius had four hits and an RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit. Beltran hit a double and the Yankees were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base. 

Mookie Betts had two hits and two RBI, Pablo Sandoval had an RBI and Xander Bogaerts had a hit and drew a walk.  David Ortiz had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Travis Shaw drew a walk and Ryan Hanigan had a hit.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had three hits, Ortiz and Bradley each hit a double and Betts and Ortiz each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Hanigan and Sandoval each committed an error and Bradley Jr. had an outfield assist. 

In the first Beltran hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Betts hit a two run homerun to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  Gregorius hit an RBI single in the fourth to tie the game at two.  Ortiz hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth and it was 3-2 Red Sox.  In the seventh Sandoval hit an RBI groundout to give the Red Sox a 4-2 lead.  In the ninth the Yankees rallied, Headley had an RBI walk to cu the lead to 4-3 but then Bird struck out with the bases loaded and one out and Gregorius just missed a grand slam as it was caught right in front of the wall to end the game. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  The series will conclude on Wednesday afternoon and then the Yankees will return home for a long homestand.

The New York Mets lose to the Boston Red Sox in extra innings



The New York Mets were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-4 Boston in ten innings.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched very well, the bullpen wasn't good and David Wright, Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out eight.  Logan Verrett pitched an inning and gave up three hits and three runs with two strikeouts, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  Carlos Torres lost his sixth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up four hits and three runs.  Eric O'Flaherty pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Henry Owens pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out six, Heath Hembree pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Robbie Ross pitched to one batter and retired him.  Alexi Ogando pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit adn a run with three walks.  Jean Machi pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one, Tommy Layne won his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk.  Junichi Tazawa pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with four walks and Craig Breslow pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Juan Uribe drew a walk, Curtis Granderson had an RBI and drew three walks.  Yoenis Cespedes had two walks, Wright had two hits and Michael Cuddyer had a hit and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had two hits, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks and Ruben Tejada had two hits and drew two walks.  Michael Confort drew a walk, Flores hit a double and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base. 

Mookie Betts had a hit, Pablo Sandoval drew a walk and Jeff Rutledge had an RBI.  Xander Bogaerts had two hits and an RBI, David Ortiz had two hits and an RBI and Blake Swihart had two hits and an RBI.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits and two RBI, Betts hit a double and Ortiz, Bradley and Swihart each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bradley and Swihart each had a stolen base.  Castillo committed an error. 

In the fourth d'Arnaud hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Cuddyer hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Mets.  In the seventh Ortiz hit a solo homerun to cut the Mets lead to 2-1.  Bradley Jr. hit a two run homerun also in the seventh to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead.  d'Arnaud had an RBI walk to tie the game at three in the seventh.  In the tenth Swihart hit an inside-the-park homerun to give the Red Sox a 4-3 lead and Rutledge hit a sac fly and Bogaerts hit an RBI single and it was 6-3 Red Sox.  The Mets scored in the bottom of the tenth on a Granderson RBI walk to make it 6-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees defeat the Atlanta Braves in a tight low scoring game



The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 3-1 Yankees.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  No one on offense had more than a hit but McCann and Gregorius each had an RBI. 

Severino won his second game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck otu five.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller saved his 28th game of the season.  Miller pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Matt Wisler pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts.  Wisler lost his fifth game of the season.  Matt Marksberry pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two, Edwin Jackson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Arodys Vizcaino pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Carlos Beltran drew two walks.  McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Greg Bird had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit.  Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Alex Rodriguez pinch hit and received an intentional walk and Brendan Ryan had a pinch hit.  Ellsbury, Headley, Gregorius, McCann and Ryan each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Ellsbury was caught stealing and Wilson committed an error. 

Nick Markakis had a hit, Cameron Maybin drew a walk and Freddie Freeman drew a walk.  Nick Swisher had two hits, Adonis Garcia had two hits and Jace Peterson drew two walks.  Christian Bethancourt had two hits, Andrelton Simmons had a hit and Garcia hit a double.  The Braves were 1-8 with runners in scoring positiona nd left ten men on base.  Bourn had a stolen base and Bethancourt had a passed ball. 

In the first a wild pitch scored a run and gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Gregorius hit an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the seventh Gomes hit an RBI force out to cut the lead to 2-1 Yankees.  In the eighth McCann hit an RBI double to increase the lead to 3-1 Yankees and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon when the series concludes. 

The New York Yankees defeat the Atlanta Braves to kick off the road trip on the right foot



The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 15-4 Yankees.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched well.  Carlos Beltran had three hits and Didi Gregorius had four hits and six RBI to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up three runs on five hits.  He gave up a walk and struck out seven batters and he won his tenth game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3of an inning giving up a walk and striking out two batters.  Bryan Mitchell returned to the mound for the first time after being hit in the face.  He pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Williams Perez started for the Braves and he pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits nad eight runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Ross Detwiler pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks nad two strikeouts, Matt Marksberry pitched an inning giving up a walk and Sugar Ray Marimon pitched two innings and he gave up a walk.  Andrew McKirahan pitched an inning giving up five hits and four runs and he struck out one and Jonny Gomes pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, John Ryan Murphy had a hit and Brett Gardner had two hits.  Beltran had three hits, Brian McCann had a hit and four RBI with three walks and Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.   Chase Headley had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Gregorius had four hits and six RBI and Stephen Drew had a walk.  Tanaka drew a walk and Chris Young had a hit and an RBI.  Headley hit two doubles, Beltran, Murphy and Gardner each hit a double.  Gregorius, McCann and Young each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 6-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Murphy had a passed ball.

The Yankees scored five runs in the first inning.  Headley hit a two run double and Gregorius hit a three run homerun.  The Braves came back with a couple of runs in the first.  Freeman hit an RBI single and Swisher hit a sac fly.  In the second Bird had an RBI walk, Headley had an RBI walk and Gregorius hit a two run single to make it 9-2 Yankees.  In the third Freeman hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 9-3.  McCann hit a three run homerun in the eighth and Gregorius hit an RBI single to make it a 13-3 game.  In the ninth Young hit a solo homerun and McCann hit a sac fly to make it 15-3 and Bethancourt hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to complete the scoring.  The Yankees won the game 15-4.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.
