The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5-1 on Wednesday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started and pitched well and the bullpen pitched very well. David Wright and Lucas Duda each had a couple of hits.
Gee pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts. Gee earned his fifth win of the season. Scott Rice retired the only batter that he faced, Brandon Lyon pitched a perfect inning and Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning.
Wright had two hits and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Duda had two hits and two RBI. Marlon Byrd had a hit and an RBI, Wright hit a double and Duda, Wright and Byrd each hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.
Shelby Miller pitched six innings giving up five hits and four runs with no walks and ten strikeouts. Miller won his seventh game of the season. Seth Maness pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Edward Mujica pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Carpenter drew two walks, Carlos Beltran had a hit and Allen Craig had a hit and an RBI. Yadier Molina had three hits, John Jay had a hit and Molina hit a double. Craig hit a homerun and the Cardinals were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. David Freese committed an error.
In the first Murphy hit an RBI single and Duda hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Mets. Duda hit a solo homerun in the fourth to make it 3-0 Mets. In the sixth Craig hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 Mets. Wright hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-1 Mets and they would add a run in the seventh on a Byrd solo homerun.
The Mets record improved to 24-36 and the Cardinals record dropped to 42-23. The two
