The New York Mets were defeated by
the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.
The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington. Jon Niese started and wasn't great, David Wright
and Travis d'Arnaud led the offense with two hits each.
Niese pitched six innings giving up
four runs and 11 hits. He walked two and
struck out six and lost his fifth game of the season. Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up
a hit and Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run
with two strikeouts.
Roenis Elias pitched 5 1/3 innings
giving up five hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts. Elias won his eighth game of the season. Dominic Leone pitched 2/3 of an inning giving
up two hits, Charlie Furbush pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and
Brandon Maurer pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one. Danny Farquhar pitched an inning giving up a
hit and an unearned run with two strikeouts.
Daniel Murphy had a hit, Wright had
two hits and an RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit.
d'Arnaud had two hits, Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk and Juan
Lagares had a hit. Ruben Tejada had a
hit and drew a walk.
Willie Bloomquist had three hits
and an RBI, James Jones had a hit and Robinson Cano had a hit. Kyle Seager had two hits and two RBI, Stefen Romero
had two hits. Justin Smoak drew a walk,
Corey Hart had a hit and drew a walk and Dustin Ackley had three hits and an
RBI. Mike Zunino had a hit and an RBI,
Bloomquist, Cano, Hart and Ackley each hit a double and Zunino hit a
homerun. The Mariners were 4-13 with
runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Bloomquist had a stolen base and Ackley was
caught stealing and Cano committed an error.
Seager hit an RBI single in the
first to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. In
the third Wright hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. In the bottom of the third Zunino hit a solo
homerun and Seager hit an RBI single to give the Mariners a 3-1 lead. Bloomquist hit an RBI double in the fourth to
give the Mariners a 4-1 lead. In the
eighth Ackley hit an RBI double to make it 5-1 and in the ninth an error led to
a Mets run to make it 5-2 and that would be the final score. The two teams will play game two of their
three game series on Tuesday night.
