The New York Yankees drop one at home to the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4.  Chris Capuano started and pitched pretty well.  The bullpen wasn't great.  Derek Jeter and Carlos Beltran each had two hits. 

Capuano pitched six innings giving up two runs and five hits.  He walked four and struck out four.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his third game of the season.  Matt Thornton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and struck out two, Chase Whitley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Jeff Francis pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Drew Hutchison pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Hutchison won his seventh game of the season.  Aaron Loup pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts and Casey Janssen pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs.   

Jeter had two hits and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Beltran had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Brian Roberts drew a walk.  Francisco Cervelli had a hit and drew a walk, McCann and Beltran each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

Jose Reyes drew a walk, Melky Cabrera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Bautista had a hit and drew two walks.  Dioner Navarro had three hits, Steve Tolleson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Dan Johnson had two hits and four RBI.  Colby Rasmus had a hit and drew a walk, Cabrera, Bautista and Navarro each hit a double.  Johnson hit a homerun and the Jays were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

In the fourth McCann hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Cabrera hit an RBI double in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1.  Tolleson hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Johnson hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 3-2 lead.  Johnson hit a three run homerun in the ninth to push the Jays lead to 6-2.  In the bottom of the ninth Beltran hit a two run homerun to cut the lead to 6-4 and that would be the final score.  The teams have split the first two games of the series and will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
