The New York Yankees sweep the Cincinnati Reds



The New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched well.  Jacoby Ellsbury had four hits and Brian McCann and Brian Roberts each had two hits. 

Kuroda pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and an unearned run.  He walked two and struck out six.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout to earn his first win of the season. 

Johnny Cueto pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Manny Parra pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and striking out two, Sam LeCure pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and Jonathan Broxton pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Aroldis Chapman lost his third game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and an RBI and Ellsbury had four hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI, Carlos Beltran drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Roberts had two hits, Kelly Johnson drew two walks and Zelous Wheeler had a hit.  Ellsbury hit a double and the Yankees were 3-15 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases, Roberts committed an error and Betances had a pickoff. 

Skip Schumaker had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI and Ryan Ludwick had a hit and drew a walk.  Ramon Santiago had two hits including a double.  Ludwick and Schumaker each hit a double and Frazier hit a homerun.  The Reds were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Santiago had a stolen base and Schumaker was picked off, Santiago committed an error. 

In the fifth Schumaker hit an RBI double to give the Reds a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Jeter hit an RBI single and Ellsbury hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the eighth Frazier hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  The Yankees won the game in the ninth on a McCann RBI single which was a gift hit.  It was a pop fly that fell in.  The Yankees won the game 3-2 and swept the three game series.  They will begin a four game series with the Texas Rangers on Monday night.
