The New York Mets earn a split with the Oakland Athletics



The New York Mets defeated the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at O co Coliseum in Oakland, California and the final score was 8-5.  Zach Wheeler started and pitched ok and the bullpen was pretty good.  The offense pounded out ten hits with four players having two hits each. 

Wheeler pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out three to win his ninth game of the season.  Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Vic Black pitched an inning giving up an unearned run and walking two and Jeurys Familia pitched 1 2/3 innings and giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and picked up his fourth save of the season. 

Jeff Samardzija pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  He lost his 10th game of the season, Jesse Chavez pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts, Abad pitched two perfect innings and Otero pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and David Wright drew a walk.  Lucas Duda had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk and Eric Campbell had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, Eric Young Jr. had a hit and Campbell and Duda each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Murphy and Duda each committed an error. 

Coco Crisp had a hit and an RBI, John Jaso had a hit and an RBI and Stephen Vogt had a hit.  Brandon Moss drew two walks, Josh Reddick had a hit and Alberto Callaspo drew a walk.  Sam Fuld had an RBI and drew two walks, Eric Sogard had a hit and drew a walk and Josh Donaldson had a hit.  Crisp, Jaso and Vogt each hit a double.  The A's were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Sogard committed an error. 

In the third Campbell hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  A wild pitch made it 2-0 Mets and Duda hit a three run homerun to make it 5-0.  Crisp hit an RBI double in the third to cut the lead to 5-1 and Jaso hit an RBI double to make it a 5-2 game.  In the fourth Granderson hit an RBI single and Murphy hit an RBI single to make it a 7-2 game.  Parrino reached on an error scoring two runs in the fourth and the score was 7-4.  In the fifth Flores hit an RBI single to give the Mets an 8-4 lead.  Fuld had an RBI walk in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-5 and that would be the final score.  The Mets will be off on Thursday and then begin a three game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
