The New York Mets start off a west coast swing with a loss



The New York Mets were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.  The game took place at O co Coliseum and the final score was 6-2.  Dillon Gee started and didn't pitch too well and the offense was led by Eric Campbell who had two hits. 

Gee pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Gee lost his sixth game of the season.  Josh Edgin pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out two and Gonzalez Germen pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. 

Scott Kazmir pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and six strikeouts.  Kazmir won his 14th game of the season.  Ryan Cook pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Eric O'Flaherty pitched to one batter and struck him out and Luke Gregerson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Sean Doolittle pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side. 

Juan Lagares drew a walk, Curtis Granderson drew two walks and David Wright had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI, Campbell had two hits and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, Anthony Recker had a hit and an RBI and Flores and Recker each hit a double.  d'Arnaud hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Coco Crisp had two hits and three RBI, John Jaso had a hit and Johnny Gomes drew a walk.  Stephen Vogt had two hits, Derek Norris had two hits and drew a walk and Josh Reddick had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Alberto Callaspo had two hits and an RBI and Eric Sogard drew a walk.  Norris hit a double, Crisp hit a triple and Reddick hit a homerun.  The A's were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the fourth d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  The A's answered right back in the bottom of the fourth.  Callaspo hit a sacrifice fly and Crisp hit a three run triple to give the A's a 4-1 lead.  Recker hit an RBI double in the seventh to make it a 4-2 game. Reddick hit a two run homerun in the eighth and it was 6-2 A's.  6-2 was the final score and the two teams will play the second and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.
