The New York Yankees avoid the sweep by the Houston Astros

The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Brandon McCarthy started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  The offense scored all their runs in one inning but they didn't need to do much.

McCarthy pitched a complete game four hit shutout.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight.  McCarthy earned his eight win of the season and fifth as a Yankee.

Dallas Keuchel lost his ninth game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Derek Jeter had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Mark Teixeira had two hits.  Martin Prado had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and two RBI and Francisco Cervelli had a hit.  Prado and Headley each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.

Robbie Grossman had a hit, Chris Carter had a hit, Dexter Fowler had a hit and Marc Krauss had a hit.  Fowler and Krauss each hit a double and the Astros were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

Headley hit a two run double and Ichiro hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  Those would be the only runs of the game as that was the final score.  The Yankees lost two out of three and will begin a three game series with the Chicago White Sox at home on Friday night.
