New York Mets fall flat in matinee loss to the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-1 Cubs.  Carlos Torres pitched well in a spot start, the bullpen wasn't so good.  The Mets offense again only had four hits. 

Torres pitched five innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out six.  Dana Eveland pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and he struck out one, Buddy Carlyle took the loss his first of the season.  Carlyle pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Vic Black pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Jennry Mejia pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs. 

Kyle Kendricks pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out three and earned his fifth win of the season.  Ramirez pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Hector Rondon earned his 18th save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Matt den Dekker had a hit and drew a walk, Murphy hit a double and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  den Dekker was caught stealing and d'Arnaud had a passed ball. 

Arismendy Alcantara drew a walk, Javier Baez had a hit and two RBI and Anthony Rizzo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit and drew a walk, Luis Valbuena had three hits and an RBI and Justin Ruggiano had a hit.  Castillo drew a walk, Ryan Sweeney had a hit and Rizzo hit a double and a homerun.  Baez also hit a homerun and the Cubs were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Duda hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Valbuena hit an RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at one.  Rizzo hit a solo homerun in the eighth to give the Cubs a 2-1 lead and in the ninth Baez hit a two run homerun to make it 4-1 and that would be the final score.  The Mets split the four game series and now head to Oakland to take on the A's on Tuesday night.
