New York Yankees even their series with the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-5.  Chris Capuano started and was terrible, the bullpen was great and the offense exploded.  Chris Young led the team with three hits and Brian McCann and Chase Headley each had two hits. 

Capuano pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Chase Whitley pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Preston Claiborne won his third game of the season pitching two hits and he struck out one and Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and struck out one and Esmil Rogers pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Jake Odorizzi lost his 12th game of the season pitching 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and six runs.  He walked three and struck out two.  Jeff Beliveau pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out one, Steve Geltz pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and Joel Peralta pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs.  Kirby Yates pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, McCann had two hits and three RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Headley had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and an RBI and Young had three hits and two RBI.  Suzuki and Young each hit a double, Teixeira hit a triple and McCann and Young each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ellsbury and Headley each had a stolen base.  McCann had a passed ball. 

Ben Zobrist had a hit, Guyer had a hit and Evan Longoria had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wil Myers had two hits and an RBI, James Loney had two hits and drew a walk and Yunel Escobar had two hits and an RBI.  Logan Forsythe had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Ryan Hanigan had an RBI and Sean Rodriguez had a hit.  Myers, Escobar, Rodriguez and Loney each hit a double.  Longoria hit a homerun and the Rays were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Hanigan committed an error. 

In the first Myers hit an RBI double, Escobar hit an RBI single, Forsythe hit an RBI single and Hanigan hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.  In the bottom of the first McCann hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1.  In the third McCann hit a two run single to make it a 4-3 game.  In the fourth Young hit a solo homerun to tie the game at four.  In the fifth Teixeira hit an RBI triple and Headley hit an RBI single to make it a 6-4.  Suzuki and Young each hit an RBI double to make it 8-4.  Longoria hit a solo homerun to make it 8-5 in the ninth and that was the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game on Thursday night.
