The New York Yankees defeated the
Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score
was 5-4. Michael Pineda started and was
ok, the bullpen was good and Chris Young led the offense.
Pineda pitched 7 1/3 innings giving
up ten hits and four runs with no walks and two strikeouts. Rich Hill pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up
a walk and two strikeouts, Roe walked his only batter and Josh Outman retired
the only batter that he faced. Shawn
Kelley won his third game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning.
Alex Cobb pitched 7 1/3 innings
giving up a hit and a run with two walks and four strikeouts. Brad Boxberger pitched 2/3 of an inning
giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Jake McGee pitched 1/3 of an
inning giving up two hits and three runs with a strikeout and he blew his third
save and lost his second game of the season.
Brian McCann drew a walk, Mark
Teixeira drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit. Young had two hits and three RBI and Martin
Prado had a hit and two RBI. Young and
Suzuki each hit a double and Prado and Young each hit a homerun. The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base.
McCann had a passed ball and Suzuki had an outfield assist.
David DeJesus had two hits, James
Loney had a hit and Wil Myers had two hits and drew a walk. Matt Joyce had two hits, Yunel Escobar had
three hits, four RBI and drew a walk and DeJesus hit a double. Escobar hit a homerun and the Rays were 2-10
with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Kiermaier and Loney each committed an
error.
In the fourth Escobar hit a three
run homerun to give the Rays a 3-0 lead.
Escobar hit a solo homerun in the seventh to make it 4-0. The Yankees broke up a no hitter in the
eighth inning on a Young double and then
Prado hit a two run homerun to make it 4-2.
In the ninth Young hit a three run walk-off homerun to give the Yankees
an improbable 5-4 win. They took two out
of three in the series and now head to Baltimore for a four game series on
Friday. They will play a day/night
doubleheader on Friday.
