The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 2-0. Shane Greene
struggled but hung in there and pitched pretty well. The Yankees offense did nothing one again as
they were shutout for the second time in three days.
Greene pitched five innings giving
up five hits and two unearned runs. He
walked three and struck out four and lost his third game of the season. Adam Warren pitched two perfect innings with
a couple of strikeouts, Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up a hit and a
walk with two strikeouts and Josh Outman pitched to one batter and struck him
out. Esmil Rogers pitched 2/3 of an
inning giving up a hit.
Yordana Ventura pitched six innings
giving up three hits and no runs. He
walked four and struck out two to earn his 12th win of the season. Aaron Crow pitched an inning with a
strikeout, Kelvin Herrera pitched a perfect inning and Wade Davis earned his
second save pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out two.
Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Derek
Jeter had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew two
walks. Mark Teixeira had a hit, Stephen
Drew drew a walk and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and
left seven men on base. Greene and
Beltran each committed an error and
Beltran had an outfield assist.
Nori Aoki had a hit and drew a
walk, Omar Infante had a hit and Alex Gordon drew a walk. Eric Hosmer had a hit, an RBI and drew a
walk, Josh Willingham had a hit and Mike Moustakas had a hit. Alcides Escobar had two hits and Jarrod Dyson
drew a walk. The Royals were 2-10 with
runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Gordon, Escobar and Infante each had a stolen
base and Escobar was caught stealing. Infante
committed an error.
In the second Aoki hit an RBI
single to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. In
the third Hosmer had an RBI single and it was 2-0 Royals which was the final
score. The Yankees lost two out of three
in the series and will be off on Monday.
They begin a three game series with the Tampa Bay Rays at home on
Tuesday night.
