The New York Yankees defeated the
Detroit Tigers by the score of 11-2 on Friday afternoon. The game took place at Joker Marchant Stadium
in Lakeland, Florida. Adam Warren made the
start and pitched well, Chase Whitley also pitched well out of the
bullpen. Alex Rodriguez and Rob
Refsnyder each hit a homerun.
Warren pitched five innings giving
up one run on four hits. He didn't walk
a batter and he struck out three batters.
Warren earned his second win of the spring. Chris Martin pitched an inning giving up two
hits and a run and Whitley pitched three innings giving up three hits and
earned a save.
Brett Gardner had a hit, Slade
Heathcott had a hit and Brendan Ryan had a hit and an RBI. Nick Noonan had an RBI, Brian McCann had a hit,
an RBI and drew a walk and Austin Romine had a hit. Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI, E. Rodriguez
drew a walk, Garrett Jones had a hit.
Francisco Arcia had a hit, Jose
Pirela had a hit and two RBI and Jonathan Galvez had a hit and two RBI. Refsnyder had a hit and two RBI, Ryan and
Pirela each hit a double. Gardner,
Galvez and Heathcott each hit a triple and A. Rodriguez and Refsnyder each hit
a homerun. The Yankees were 5-8 with
runners in scoring position and left two men on base. Galvez committed an error.
In the first Ryan hit an RBI double
to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. McCann
hit an RBI single to make it 2-0, Pirela hit a two run double to extend the
lead to 4-0 and Refsnyder hit a two run homerun to make it 6-0. In the fifth A. Rodriguez hit a solo homerun
to make it a 7-0 game. In the bottom of
the fifth Yoenis Cespedes hit a solo homerun to make it a 7-1 game. In the sixth Ian Kinsler hit an RBI single to
cut the lead to 7-2. In the eighth
Galvez hit a two run triple to push the lead to 9-2. Cole Figueroa reached on an error scoring
another run to make it 10-2. The Yankees
added another run on a Nick Noonan sacrifice fly and the final score was
11-2.
The Yankees will take on the
Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon in Tampa, Florida. Michael Pineda will make the start looking to
keep his impressive spring going.
