The New York Mets defeated the
Miami Marlins 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Jacob deGrom pitched very well and Jennry
Mejia also pitched well. The Mets only
had six hits and no one had more than a hit.
deGrom pitched five innings giving
up a hit and no runs. He didn't walk a batter
and struck out six. Steven Matz pitched
a perfect inning, Scott Rice didn't record an out and gave up a hit and a run, Erik Goeddel pitched an inning giving up two hits
and two runs and Jeurys Familia picked up his second win of the spring pitching
an inning and giving up three hits and a run.
Mejia picked up the save pitching an inning and giving up two hits and
striking out a batter.
Juan Lagares drew a walk, Curtis
Granderson had a hit and drew a walk and John Mayberry Jr. drew a walk. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, Brandon Allen had
an RBI and Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew two walks. Wilfredo Tovar had a hit, Ruben Tejada drew a
walk and Johnny Monell had a hit and three RBI.
Kevin Plawecki had a hit and an RBI, Nieuwenhuis hit a double and
Plawecki and Monell each hit a homerun.
The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on
base.
In the bottom of the fifth Plawecki
hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
In the seventh Marcell Ozuna hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at
one. Michael Morse hit a two run homerun
to give the Marlins a 3-1 lead. In the
eighth J.T. Realmuto hit an RBI single to increase the Marlins lead to
4-1. In the bottom of the eighth a wild
pitch scored a Mets run and cut the lead to 4-2. Allen hit a sacrifice fly and it was 4-3,
Monell hit a three run homerun to make it 6-4 Mets and that was the final
score.
The Mets will be off on Wednesday
and resume play on Thursday. They will
play a split squad on Thursday afternoon.
They will take on the Astros at home in Port St. Lucie and the Cardinals
in Jupiter, Florida.
