The New York Mets are swept in Pittsburgh as they are blown out



The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 9-1.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and didn't pitch very well, the bullpen didn't fare too well either.  Wilmer Flores had two hits to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  Niese suffered his fifth loss of the season.  Erik Goeddel pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and Sean Gilmartin pitched two innings giving up three hits nad two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Francisco Liriano won his second game of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and a run with two walks and 12 strikeouts.  Jared Hughes pitched a perfect inning, Tony Watson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Arquimedes Caminero pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Flores had two hits and an RBI, Michael Cuddyer had a hit and Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk.  John Mayberry Jr. had a hit, Darrell Ceciliani had a hit and Ruben Tejada drew a walk.  Niese had a hit, Mayberry hit a double and the Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Josh Harrison had a hit and an RBI, Jose Tabata drew a walk and Corey Hart had a hit and an RBI.  Andrew McCutchen had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks, Starling Marte had a hit and three RBI and Jung Ho Kang had a hit and drew a walk.  Francisco Cervelli had three hits and an RBI, Jordy Mercer had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Gregor Polanco had two hits, Kang and Mercer each hit a double.  McCutchen and Marte each hit a homerun and the Pirates were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Mercer had a stolen base. 

In the fourth Mercer hit an RBI double to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Flores hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  McCutchen hit a two run homerun to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead.  Cervelli hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Marte hit a three run homerun and the lead was now 7-1 Pirates.  Harrison hit a sac fly to make it 8-1 in the seventh.  Hart hit an RBI single in the seventh and that was the end of the scoring. 

The Pirates swept the Mets and the Mets will remain at home to take on the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon.  Bartolo Colon will get the start coming off of two rough outings.
