The New York Mets double up the Philadelphia Phillies on Memorial Day



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was  6-3.  Bartolo Colon started and ended his personal two game losing streak.  He pitched pretty well and the bullpen was good.  Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy each had a couple of hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Colon won his seventh game of the season.  Alex Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one, Hansel Robles pitched to two batters and retired them both, one on a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he earned his 14th save of the season. 

Severino Gonzalez pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with no walks and eight strikeouts.  Elvis Araujo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and took his first loss of the season, Justin De Fratus pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and Jeanmar Gomez pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings.  Jake Diekman pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Granderson had two hits, Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI and Murphy had two hits and an RBI.  Michael Cuddyer had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Wilmer Flores had a hit and three RBI and Anthony Recker drew a walk.  Colon had a hit and Duda, Cuddyer and Flores each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  recker had a stolen base and committed an error. 

Ben Revere had a hit, Freddy Galvis had two hits and Chase Utley had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Ryan Howard had a hit and an RBI, Grady Sizemore drew a walk and S. Gonzalez drew a walk.  Galvis hit a double and the Phillies were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Murphy hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Utley hit a two run single to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.  Duda answered back with a solo homerun int he third to tie the game at two.  In the fourth Cuddyer hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  Howard hit a sac fly in the fifth and the game was tied at three.  In the sixth Flores hit a three run homerun to make it 6-3 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  Jacob deGrom will get the ball coming off of a dominating performance his last time out.
