The New York Mets drop their second straight 1-0 game to the Washington Nationals

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 1-0.  Dillon Gee started and pitched pretty well but he was wild with too many walks.  Juan Lagares had two of the teams five hits.

Gee pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with five walks and five strikeouts.  Gee took his second loss of the season, this one was a tough luck loss.  Alex Torres pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts, Erik Goeddel pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and Sean Gilmartin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Doug Fister started for the Nationals and pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Fister won his second game of the season, Tanner Roark pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a strikeout, Matt Thornton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two walks and he struck out one and Aaron Barrett pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Drew Storen saved his seventh game of the season pitching a perfect inning.

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Lagares had two hits and drew a walk and Kevin Plawecki had a hit.  Gee had a hit, John Mayberry Jr. drew a walk and Plawecki hit a double.  The Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Denard Span had a hit and drew a walk, Yunel Escobar had a hit and Jayson Werth drew a walk.  Bryce Harper had a hit, Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and an RBI and Ian Desmond had two hits and drew a walk.  Danny Espinosa had a hit, Jose Lobaton drew two walks and Tyler Moore drew a walk.  Desmond had two doubles, Span and Espinosa each hit a double.  The Nationals were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.

In the first Zimmerman hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  The one run would hold up the whole game as the Mets couldn't get much of anything going all day.  The Mets will have the day off on Monday before taking on the Baltimore Orioles at home on Tuesday night.  They will begin a three game series with the Orioles.
