The New York Mets are shutout by the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 1-0.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well and Juan Lagares had two hits to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up nine hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Niese took his second loss of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts. 

Gio Gonzalez started for the Nationals and pitched seven innings giving up six hit sand no runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season, Aaron Barrett pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Matt Grace pitched to one batter and retired him and Drew Storen earned his sixth game of the season. 

Lagares had two hits, Lucas Duda had a hit and Michael Cuddyer drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy ahd a hit, Dilson Herrera had a hit and Ruben Tejada had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit and Anthony Recker drew a walk.  Duda hit a double and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. 

Michael Taylor had a hit and an RBI, Jayson Werth had a hit and Bryce Harper drew a walk.  Ryan Zimmerman had a hit, Wilson Ramos had two hits and Ian Desmond had two hits.  Daniel Espinosa had two hits.  The Nationals were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the second Taylor hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead and that would be all that he could handle.
