New York Mets defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-2



The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 7-2.  Noah Syndergaard pitched three effective innings in his spring debut.  Alejandro De Aza and Wilmer Flores each had a couple of hits to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched three scoreless innings giving up a hit.  He walked none and struck out two batters.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and Robert Gsellman pitched two innings giving up two hits.  Buddy Carlyle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Roger Bernadina had a hit, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Ruben Tejada had a hit and two RBI.  Gavin Cecchini drew a walk, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and De Aza had two hits.  Lucas Duda drew a walk, Eric Campbell had a hit and drew a walk and Ty Kelly had two RBI.  Travis Taijeron had a hit and three RBI, Flores had two hits and Danny Muno had a hit.  Nevin Ashley had a hit, Raywilly Gomez had a hit and De Aza hit a double.  Tejada and Taijeron each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring  position and left 11 men on base.  Campbell had a stolen base and Muno committed an error. 

In the fourth Matt Adams hit a two run homerun to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Tejada hit a two run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Kelly hit an RBI groundout to make it 3-2 Mets.  Taijeron hit a three run homerun to make it a  6-2 game  and in the eighth Kelly hit a sac fly to push the Mets lead to 7-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets are 4-3 with a couple of tie games in the spring.  The Mets will head to Viera on Friday afternoon to take on the Washington Nationals.
