New York Yankees defeat the Boston Red Sox 6-4 as Alex Rodriguez, Aaron Judge and Jorge Mateo shine



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The final score was 6-4 and the game took place in Tampa, Florida.  The Yankees used nine pitchers and most of the pitching was good.  Rodriguez led the offense with a couple of hits but Judge and Mateo each hit a homerun. 

Tyler Cloyd started for the Yankees and pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Nick Rumbelow pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Tyler Olson pitched a perfect inning, Johnny Barbato pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Richard Bleier pitched an inning striking out a batter.  Kyle Haynes pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Mark Montgomery pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with one of them being unearned.  He struck out two batters and Nick Goody pitched a perfect inning. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI and Judge had a hit and three RBI.  Rodriguez had two hits and drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Jonathan Diaz drew a walk, Ben Gamel had a hit and Rob Refsnyder had a hit.  Mateo had a hit and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Ellsbury hit a triple and Mateo and Judge each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Refsnyder and Torreyes each had a stolen base and Rodriguez had a passed ball. 

In the first Brock Holt hit an RBI single giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the third Mateo hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the third Teixeira hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Beltran hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the seventh Judge hit a three run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 6-1.  Brennan Boesch hit a solo homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 6-2 and Ryan LaMarre hit a two run homerun to cut the lead to 6-4 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees spring record improved to 2-2 and they will travel to Clearwater, Florida on Sunday afternoon to take on the Philadelphia Phillies.
