The New York Yankees defeated the
Texas Rangers on Monday night. The game
took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was
3-1. Nathan Eovaldi started for the
Yankees and pitched great and the big two at the backend of the bullpen
finished it for the Yankees. Jacoby
Ellsbury, Mark Teixeira, Starlin Castro and Austin Romine each had two hits to
lead the offense.
Eovaldi pitched seven innings
giving up two hits and no runs with two walks and six strikeouts. He won his first game of the season. Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a
hit and a run with a strikeout and Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning
earning his fifth save of the season.
Cesar Ramos lost his first game of
the season pitching six innings and giving up nine hits and three runs with two
walks and five strikeouts. Phil Klein
pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Jake Diekman pitched an
inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a
perfect inning with a strikeout.
Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI,
Carlos Beltran drew a walk and Teixeira had two hits and an RBI. Castro had two hits and an RBI, Chase Headley
had a hit and Dustin Ackley drew a walk.
Didi Gregorius had a hit, Romine had two hits and Teixeira hit a
double. Ellsbury and Castro each hit a
homerun and the Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left
eight men on base. Gregorius committed
an error.
Nomar Mazara had a hit and drew a
walk, Prince Fielder had a hit and Mitch Moreland drew a walk. Brett Nicholas had a hit and an RBI, Fielder
hit a double and Nicholas hit a homerun.
The Rangers were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men
on base. Nicholas had a passed ball.
In the third Ellsbury hit a solo
homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the third Teixeira hit an RBI double to make it 2-0. In the sixth Castro hit a solo homerun to
extend the lead to 3-0. In the eighth
Texas broke through with their only run on a Nicholas solo homerun. The final score was 3-1 and the two teams
will play game two on Tuesday night.
