The New York Mets were defeated by
the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon.
The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm
Beach, Florida and the final score was 3-1.
Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched ok. The Mets offense only managed one hit.
Wheeler pitched 2 1/3 innings
giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts. He took the loss. Tom Gorzelanny pitched two two batteres and
retired them both, Ben Rowen pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with
a walk and a strikeout and Josh Smoker pitched an inning with a strikeout. Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit
and he struck out one and Beck Wheeler pitched a perfect inning.
Curtis Granderson drew a walk,
Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and that was it for the offense. Cabrera hit a double and the Mets were 0-3
with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.
In the first Bryce Harper hit a
solo homerun to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.
In the second Stephen Drew hit an RBI double to extend the lead to
2-0. In the fourth Ryan Zimmerman hit an
RBI single and it was 3-0 Nationals.
Lucas Duda reached on a fielding error in the seventh to cut the lead to
3-1 and that would be the final score.
