The New York Yankees defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.
The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida
and the final score was 3-1. Michael
Pineda started for the Yankees and he was perfect. Aroldis Chapman and Chad Green also pitched
well. Gary Sanchez and Greg Bird each
had two hits to lead the offense.
Pineda pitched five perfect innings
to pick up his second win of the spring.
He also struck out eight batters.
Chapman pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two and
Green pitched three innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts to
pick up the save.
Brett Gardner had a hit, Rob
Refsnyder drew a walk and Dustin Fowler had an RBI. Sanchez had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk,
Bird had two hits and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit. Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a
hit which was a double and Bird hit a homerun.
The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men
on base. Headley had a stolen base.
In the second Bird hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the third Sanchez hit an RBI single to extend the Yankees lead to
2-0. In the seventh Maikel Franco hit an
RBI ground out to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh Fowler hit a sac fly to make it a 3-1 game
and that would be the final score.
