The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. The
game took place at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Florida and the
final score was 10-6. Luis Severino
started for the Yankees and he pitched well.
Greg Bird had two hits to lead the Yankees offense.
Severino pitched three innings
giving up two hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts. Jon Niese pitched an inning giving up a run
and a walk with two strikeouts, Johnny Barbato took the loss pitching 2/3 of an
inning giving up four hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts and
Dietrich Enns pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with
four walks and a strikeout. Jonathan
Holder pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jason
Gurka pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an
RBI, Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI and Kyle Higashioka drew a walk. Bird had two hits, Ji-Man Choi had a hit and
drew a walk and Chase Headley drew two walks.
Miguel Andujar had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Clint
Frazier had a hit. Tyler Wade had a hit,
Gleyber Torres had two hits and three RBI and Torres and Bird each hit a
double. Bird hit a triple and Sanchez and
Torres each hit a homerun. The Yankees
were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Frazier and Sanchez each had a stolen base
and Torres and Frazier each committed an error.
Sanchez had a passed ball.
In the first Sanchez hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the second Torres hit an RBI double to extend the Yankees lead to
2-0. Torreyes hit an RBI single to push
the lead to 3-0 and in the bottom of the second Rickie Weeks Jr. hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 3-1. In the
fifth Dayron Varona hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at three. Weeks Jr. hit a two-run double in the fifth
to give the Rays a 5-3 lead. Tim Beckham
drew an RBI walk to push the Rays lead to 6-3.
Varona drew an RBI walk and it was 7-3 Rays. In the sixth Torres hit a two-run homerun to
cut the lead to 7-5. In the bottom of
the sixth Michael McKenry drew an RBI walk to extend the Rays lead to 8-5. Willy Adames hit a two-run single to make it
10-5 Rays. In the ninth Andujar hit an
RBI single and cut the lead to 10-6 which was the final score.
