The New York Yankees defeated the
Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night. The
game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final
score was 8-1. Adam Warren started for
the Yankees and he pitched pretty well.
Aroldis Chapman made his first appearance of the spring and he looked
great. Billy McKinney and Gary Sanchez
each had two hits.
Warren pitched three innings giving
up one hit and one run with a walk and three strikeouts. Chapman got the win pitching an inning with
two strikeouts, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a couple of
strikeouts and Tommy Layne pitched a perfect inning. Dietrich Enns pitched two innings giving up a
walk and striking out one and Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out two.
Aaron Hicks had a hit, McKinney had
two hits and three RBI and Sanchez had two hits and an RBI. Kyle Higashioka had a hit and drew a walk,
Greg Bird had a hit and two RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit and an RBI. Starlin Castro had a hit, Jorge Mateo had a
hit and an RBI and Miguel Andujar had a hit.
Tyler Wade had a hit, Gleyber Torres had a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit
and Sanchez, Higashioka, Mateo and McKinney each hit a double. Holliday, Bird and McKinney each hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 3-11 with
runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Mateo had a stolen base and Tejada committed
an error.
In the second Holliday hit a solo homerun giving
the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the third
Caleb Joseph hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one. In the fourth Bird hit a two run homerun to
give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. In the
fifth Sanchez hit an RBI single and it was 4-1 Yankees. McKinney hit a two-run homerun in the seventh
to extend the lead to 6-1. Mateo hit an
RBI double to push the lead to 7-1. In
the eighth McKinney hit an RBI double to make it
