The New York Mets were defeated by
the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night.
The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final
score was 6-4. Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and
pitched ok. Asdrubal Cabrera and Michael
Conforto each had two hits to lead the offense.
Syndergaard pitched seven innings
giving up five runs but only three were earned.
He gave up seven hits and he walked none and struck out ten. Syndergaard lost his first game of the
season. Fernando Salas pitched giving up
three hits and a run without recording an out, Josh Edgin pitched a perfect
inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning walking two and
striking out two.
Aaron Nola pitched five innings
giving up seven hits and four runs with four walks and two strikeouts. He won his second game of the season. Joely Rodriguez pitched two perfect innings
with three strikeouts, Joaquin Benoit pitched an inning giving up a hit and
struck out one and Hector Neris pitched a perfect inning and picked up his
first save of the season.
Cabrera had two hits, Yoenis
Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk and Jay Bruce drew a walk. Neil Walker had a hit, three RBI and drew a
walk, Conforto had two hits and Jose Reyes had a hit. Syndergaard drew a walk, Rene Rivera had a
hit and an RBI and Walker hit a homerun.
The Mets were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on
base. Reyes had a stolen base and Bruce,
Cabrera and Lagares each committed an error.
Cesar Hernandez drew a walk, Daniel
Nava had a hit and Maikel Franco had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk. Aaron Altherr had two hits and an RBI, Tommy
Joseph had three hits and an RBI and Freddy Galvis had a hit. Andrew Knapp had a hit and an RBI, Joseph,
Knapp and Franco each hit a double and Franco hit a homerun. Altherr and Herrera each had a stolen
base. Altherr had an outfield assist.
In the second Joseph hit an RBI
double to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.
Galvis hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0 and Knapp hit an RBI
double to make it 3-0 Phillies. In the
second Rivera hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1. In the third Franco hit an RBI double to
increase the lead to 4-1 and Altherr hit an RBI groundout and it was 5-1
Phillies. In the third Walker hit a
three-run homerun to cut the lead to 5-4.
Franco hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 6-4 and that would be
the final score.
The two teams will play on Friday
night and then Saturday late afternoon.
