The New York Yankees defeated the
Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 9-1. Masahiro Tanaka
started for the Yankees and he pitched well.
Chase Headley, Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks and Starlin Castro each hit a
homerun to lead the offense.
Tanaka pitched seven innings giving
up six hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts. He won his second game of the season. Bryan Mitchell pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and
Tommy Layne pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one.
Dylan Covey lost his first game of
the season pitching five innings and giving up ten hits and eight runs. He walked two and struck out one. Zach Putnam pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout, Tommy Kahnle pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and
Michael Ynoa pitched giving up a hit and a run with a walk and didn’t record an
out. Dan Jennings pitched a perfect
inning with a couple of strikeouts.
Brett Gardner had a hit, Headley had
a hit and two RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit and drew a walk. Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Castro had a hit,
three RBI and drew a walk and Hicks had a hit and an RBI. Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk,
Greg Bird had a hit and Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI. Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an RBI and
Gardner and Bird each hit a double. The
Yankees were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on
base.
Tim Anderson had a hit, Melky
Cabrera had a hit and Jose Abreu had three hits and an RBI. Avisail Garcia drew two walks, Yolmer Sanchez
had a hit and Abreu hit two doubles.
Anderson and Sanchez also each hit a double. The White Sox were 1-10 with runners in
scoring position and left six men on base.
Garcia committed an error.
In the first Headley hit a two-run
homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
In the second Romine hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0. Torreyes hit an RBI ground out to make it a
4-0 game. In the fourth Abreu hit an RBI
double to cut the lead to 4-1. In the fifth
Castro hit a three-run homerun to make it a 7-1 game and Judge hit a solo
homerun extending the lead to 8-1. In
the eighth Hicks hit a solo homerun and the score was 9-1 which was the final
score.
The Yankees finished their home
stand at 8-1 and will have off on Thursday.
They will begin a three game set in Pittsburgh on Friday night.
