New York Yankees lose a sloppy game in PittsburghNe


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.  The game took place at PNC Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 6-3.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch very well, he didn’t have any of his pitches but he grinded it out.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Starlin Castro two to lead the offense. 

Sabathia lost his first game of the season pitching five innings and giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out three.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two unearned runs and he walked one with three strikeouts, Tommy Layne gave up a walk and Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a hit and struck out one.  Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Tyler Glasnow pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five.  Juan Nicasio won his first game of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings and striking out two, Felipe Rivero pitched a perfect inning and Daniel Hudson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Tony Watson picked up his fifth save of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Castro had two hits.  Ellsbury had three hits and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and Austin Romine had a hit.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Headley hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases and Hicks had a stolen base.  Castro committed an error. 

Jordy Mercer had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Harrison had two hits and Andrew McCutchen had a hit.  Gregory Polanco drew two walks, David Freese had two hits and two RBI and Jose Osuna had a hit and drew a walk.  Josh Bell had a hit and two RBI, Osuna hit a triple and Mercer and Bell each hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Osuna, Harrison and Freese each committed an error. 

In the first Mercer hit a solo homerun and Freese hit an RBI single to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.  In the second Bell hit a two-run homerun to push the Pirates lead to 4-0.  Headley hit an RBI double in the third aided by an error to make it 4-1.  In the fifth Bird reached on a fielding error and two runs scored to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the seventh McCutchen reached on a fielding error and a run scored to make it 5-3 and then Freese had an RBI single to make it 6-3 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon and then finish their series on Sunday afternoon.
