New York Mets are swept by the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Sunday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Michael Conforto had three hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched seven innings giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Max Scherzer won his third game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out nine.  Oliver Perez gave up a hit to the only batter he faced and Koda Glover pitched an inning with a strikeout and picked up his second save of the season. 

Conforto had three hits and an RBI, Jay Bruce had a hit and Neil Walker had a hit two RBI and drew a walk.  Jose Reyes had a hit, Conforto and Walker each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Adam Eaton drew a walk, Trea Turner had a hit and Bryce Harper had two hits.  Ryan Zimmerman had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and four RBI and Murphy and Zimmerman each hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the first Murphy hit a grand-slam to give the Nationals a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Conforto hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the third Walker hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the eighth Zimmerman hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets got swept in the three game series and will open a three game series with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.
