New York Yankees ride the baby bombers to victory in Boston


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 3-1.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Aaron Judge led the offense with a two run homerun and Greg Bird had an RBI hit. 

Severino pitched seven shutout innings.  He gave up three hits and two walks and struck out six.  Severino won his second game of the season.  Delllin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman picked up his fifth save of the season but it wasn’t easy.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Rick Porcello started for the Red Sox and he pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out nine and picked up his third loss of the season.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched to one batter and walked him, Joe Kelly pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Robby Scott pitched an inning walking one and striking out one. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Matt Holliday drew two walks.  Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Headley hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Headley had a stolen base. 

Andrew Benintendi drew a walk, Mookie Betts had two hits and Mitch Moreland drew a walk. Chris Young had an RBI, Hanley Ramirez had a hit and drew a walk and Jackie Bradley Jr. drew a walk.  Marco Hernandez had a hit, Betts hit a double and the Red Sox were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bogaerts and Leon each committed an error. 

In the second Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Bird hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the ninth Young hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the second and final game of the series on Thursday night.  Masahiro Tanaka goes up against Chris Sale in a matchup of aces.
