New York Yankees drop a close one in Baltimore


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 3-2.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he grinded for a few innings.  The Yankees bullpen was great and the offense got two hits from Brett Gardner and an Aaron Judge homerun. 

Montgomery pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five and took his fourth loss of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs with three strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out three. 

Dylan Bundy started for the Orioles and he pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Bundy won his sixth game of the season, Darren O’Day pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Brad Brach picked up his tenth save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Gardner had two hits, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Judge had a hit and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk.  Gardner hit a double and Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Castro committed an error. 

Joey Rickard had a hit and drew a walk, Mark Trumbo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Welington Castillo had two hits.  Trey Mancini had a hit, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and two RBI and Caleb Joseph had a hit.  Joseph hit a double and Schoop also hit a double and the Orioles were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Mancini had an outfield assist. 

In the first Trumbo hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the second Hicks hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the third Schoop hit a two-run double to give the Orioles a 3-1 lead.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score of the game.  The two teams will play game two of the three game set on Tuesday night.
