New York Yankees even their series in Baltimore with a win


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 8-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen also pitched well.  Brett Gardner and Matt Holliday each had two homeruns to lead the offense.   

Severino pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out eight and won his fourth game of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter, Adam Warren pitched to one batter and struck him out and Bryan Mitchell pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs which were unearned.  He walked one and struck out one and Tyler Clippard pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout. 

Chris Tillman lost his second game of the season pitching 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out one.  Logan Verrett pitched three innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts, Donnie Hart pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Mychal Givens pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Richard Bleier pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Gardner had two hits and two RBI, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Holliday had two hits and two RBI.  Starlin Castro had two hits, Aaron Judge had two hits and two RBI with a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Aaron Hicks had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley had two hits and an RBI and Rob Refsnyder drew a walk.  Gregorius and Judge each hit a double and Gardner hit two homeruns, Holliday hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Mitchell committed an error. 

Jonathan Schoop had a hit and drew a walk, Mark Trumbo drew a walk and Chris Davis had a hit.  Welington Castillo had a hit, Trey Mancini had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Joey Rickard had two hits and an RBI.  J.J. Hardy had a hit and an RBI and the Orioles were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Davis committed an error and Smith had an outfield assist. 

In the first Gardner hit a solo homerun and Holliday hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Hicks hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.  In the third Holliday hit another solo homerun extending the lead to 4-0.  Headley hit an RBI single making it 5-0.  In the fourth Gardner hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 6-0.  Judge hit a two-run double and it was 8-0 Yankees.  In the sixth Mancini hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-1.  Rickard hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it 8-2 and Hardy hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-3 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night.
