New York Yankees are defeated by Corey Kluber and the Cleveland Indians


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The Yankees offense only managed three hits. 

Severino pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out nine and lost his sixth game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run and Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Corey Kluber pitched eight innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Kluber won his 13th game of the season and Cody Allen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit.  Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI, Ellsbury hit a double and Headley hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Castro committed an error. 

Austin Jackson had a hit and an RBI, Jose Ramirez had two hits and two RBI and drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion drew a walk.  Jay Bruce drew a walk, Carlos Santana had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Bradley Zimmer had two hits and an RBI.  Zimmer hit a double and Ramirez hit two homeruns.  Santana and Jackson each hit a homerun and the Indians were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Ramirez and Zimmer each had a stolen base and Urshela committed an error. 

In the first Ramirez hit a solo homerun to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.  In the third Headley hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Frazier hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Ramirez hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Santana hit a solo homerun to give the Indians a 3-2 lead, a wild pitch made it 4-2.  In the eighth Jackson hit a solo homerun to make it 5-2 and in the ninth Zimmer hit an RBI double to push the lead to 6-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of the three game series on Tuesday night.
